Makes 1 drink
(As shared by Herb’s late, personal mixloligist, Randy Bomarito at Bouchon Restaurant, Yountville)
6 oz. tomato juice (homemade is best – No V8 or Clamato!!!)
1 TBS ketchup
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp fresh ground horseradish *
2 shakes pepper sauce (Tabasco or hot sauce of your choice)
2 shakes Worchester sauce
2 shakes of bitters (we found a wonderful blend of bitters and Vermouth, Antiga, at Acme Fine Wines)
2 oz. Vodka of your choice
*(When Jennifer couldn’t find fresh horseradish to use for New Year’s Prime Rib or Bloody Mary’s, she grew her own! Easy to do and always available for emergencies. Peel a carrot-like root and grate into a bowl, adding salt and rice-wine vinegar or lemon juice to taste. Cry.)
Stir ingredients together. Serve in an Old Fashioned or tall tubular glass. Add some fresh squeezed lime juice and sea salt (optional) and fresh ground pepper, along with an asparagus spear (or other vegetable matter) and serve. A great “hair of the dog” remedy for a Saturday night hangover… or to sip while watching football or sleeping in front of golf on TV.
