It’s Been Quite A Run…
For more than 30 years I have had the pleasure of growing and selling fruit from my exclusive Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard along with the added delight of 20+ years producing sought-after Napa Valley wines.
The dream that Herb and I had in the late 1980s of owning a piece of Napa Valley land, managing a vineyard, and selling the fruit burst forth in 1992 when we began selling grapes to cult-followed Colgin Cellars and Herb’s name first appeared on their label. But our pride truly blossomed in 1997 when we made our very own 50 cases of HL Cabernet Sauvignon. Little did we know that 30 years later it would mature into the expansion of selling our wines to happy clients in 48 states, and offering limited quantities to distributors in 13 states, and seven countries!
So after countless joys and many sorrows, the time has come for me to retire from selling wine. I have decided to lease out the Herb Lamb Vineyard to the expert hands of winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, a good friend and 100-point winemaker with a history of working with the best of the best fruit in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. While there will be no more “HL Cabernet” produced, our fruit will still be available in Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon bearing the Herb Lamb Vineyard name. Thomas is just as adamant as I that continuing to use our expert vineyard management team from Barbour Vineyard Management will ensure the best possible quality fruit and health and longevity of the vines.
No, I am not selling the property. I am not selling the HL brand. I am just giving myself more time to spend with my children and grandchildren and travel for leisure instead of work! While wrought with mixed emotions, this is not a sad ending but rather the beginning of a new era. The friends and business acquaintances that I have met have been the best part of the job, and I will hold you near to my heart.
